Kay Meyer Elected Zonta District 12 Governor

Kay Meyer            Kay Meyer was unanimously elected as Zonta District 12 Governor on October 31, 2009 at the District 12 Conference held at the Red Lion Central Hotel in Denver.  She was elected by delegates from Zonta clubs throughout Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota and Montana.  She will hold the office for two years starting June 1, 2010.  Kay has been an active valuable Zonta Foothills member for over fourteen years holding offices including President of Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County and, currently, Lt. Governor of District 12.   We are all very proud to support her! Congratulations, Kay!

 
 
 
 
 
Beverly Sears Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award


         Beverly Sears, a Zonta Foothills Club member since 1984, was honored by the Boulder Chamber in August 2009 with a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the 14th Annual Women Who Light the Community Awards.  Bev's life has been one of community service, education, mentoring and preservation.  A former Boulder city councilwoman, Bev is also being honored for her work with the People's Clinic, Colorado Music Festival, Audobon Society, University of Colorado and Unitarian Universalist Church, among other things.  Bev was nominated by Laura McCutchen, a fellow member of Zonta Foothills.  Bev was honored at a luncheon at the Millennium Harvest House in Boulder on September 18, 2009.

     In May 2009, Zonta Foothills honored three members of the club, Margaret Salyards, Bev Sears and Betty Cox with the Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County Lifetime Service Award for their long time commitment to Zonta Foothills and its mission.  Betty and Margaret are founding members of the club (1982) and Bev joined in 1984. All three are distinguished, involved members of the club who have given countless hours to the goals and leadership of the Club.

Zontian of the Year Awards


     In May 2009, Zonta Foothills members voted to honor both Janine Clark and Paulette Barnes with the 2008-2009 Zonta Foothills Club of Boulder County Zontian of the Year Award for their outstanding work in a variety of aspects to the club during the year.  Both Janine and Paulette are club members who have distinguished themselves through their dedication to the club, its success and its mission.  The members felt they deserved special recognition in a very crowded playing field.

     Ms Clark volunteers many hours to the Fairview Teen Parent Program where she was instrumental in assisting several students apply for and gain entrance into college.  She also acts as the information technology expert of the club with her far reaching efforts on the website, Authors’ Luncheon, club communications and club public relations. 


     Ms Barnes’ talents greatly contributed to a successful Authors’ Luncheon and to a record number of new members recruited in 2008-2009.  She acted as co-chair of the Zonta Foothills Membership Committee which recruited nine new members.  She also gave countless hours, space in her home and her impressive talents to create simply amazing silent auction baskets for the Authors’ Luncheon.  Her efforts greatly contributed to the most successful fund raising year the club has experienced to date.



Ceal Barry                    Woman of Achievement Award

      In April 2009, Zonta Foothills honored community resident Ceal Barry with the 2008-2009 Woman of Achievement Award for her work advancing the status and education of student athletes at the University of Colorado. Ms Barry demonstrates a tireless commitment to women’s sports and students’ personal achievement through coaching and her current work as assistant athletic director for student services. Her impressive achievements as a coach illustrate to all women and girls that a woman can not only compete in a traditionally man’s arena but can surpass their historical accomplishments. Nominees for the award were presented with a yellow rose and acknowledgement on Rose Day.

Humanitarian and Advocacy Award

Ellen Marshall
Ellen Marshall walks the walk. 

     In October 2008, Zonta Foothills honored member Ellen Marshall with the first Zonta Foothills Humanitarian and Advocacy Award.  This award recognized Ms. Marshall's direct impact on advocating for women’s and girls' healthcare, education, economic opportunity and fight against violence both locally and internationally. Ms. Marshall was instrumental in forging frameworks used by 180 governments that support the philosophy that women's rights are human rights. In turn, she helped develop action steps for governments and civil society to promote health, education and economic security for women. She has spent the last ten years advocating for women's health in Colorado and Washington, including work shaping the U.S. response to the global HIV/AIDS crisis that specifically focuses on how the pandemic affects women and youth. She has been an advocate for sound education investment policies in Colorado and protecting women’s health rights.

     To honor Ms. Marshall, Zonta Foothills members made contributions to the Bev Hackbart Scholarship. Ellen Marshall was also a nominee for the 2008 and 2009 Boulder County Chapter United Nations International Human Rights Award.
